Q.
|
What browsers can I use?

|
A.
|
Internet Explorer and Netscape are the supported browsers. We recommend you use the current
versions for best performance, and make sure that you use Windows Update or Netscape's
update service to keep up to date with all security patches.

Q.
|
Can I use America Online's (AOL's) browser?
|
|
A.
|
Unfortunately, many people have reported problems
with AOL's browser and Towson Online Services (it's not
just with Online Services but with other highly
interactive web sites, like online banking or e-commerce
sites).
You CAN, however,
continue to use your America Online connection to get
you on the Internet. Once you establish your connection,
you can then minimize AOL and launch Internet Explorer
or Netscape, and from there, go to http://students.towson.edu.
Here's how:
1. Dial into AOL as you typically do. 2. Minimize
your AOL browser 3. Click on “START” in the lower
left corner of your desktop 4. Click on “Programs”
5. Click on “Internet Explorer” 6. Type in http://students.towson.edu
for the address (URL) 7. Log-in using your Tiger
Username and Password

Q.
|
What is the difference between "PeopleSoft" and "Online Services?"
|
|
A.
|
PeopleSoft is the "brand name" of the product most University System of
Maryland universities have used to build the next-generation successor
to their core business computing systems (student
administration, human resources, and financial management).
We call Towson's implementation "Online Services." The new student administration features have replaced TSiNet and TOPS. Bottom line: Towson Online Services is powered by PeopleSoft.

|
Q.
|
Why do I have to have a Tiger account?
|
|
A.
|
Because Towson Online Services is the new way to do
business with the university through the web, we have to
provide a convenient way to let you get to your own
records, but at the same time, keep other people out of
them. With banking, you have ATM machines, and an
ATM card is like your Tiger username; the PIN is like
your Tiger password. When you provide both your username
and password correctly, you're considered
"authenticated" and you're permitted to
proceed.
Since all students are provided an
account on the student computer (named Tiger) for email,
file storage, and other services, we wanted to make it
easy for you by allowing you to use the same
"credentials" (your username and password) for Tiger
computing as well as Towson Online Services.

Q.
|
How can I forward my Tiger email to my Yahoo or Hotmail account, since I don't often log in to Tiger?
|
|
A.
|
Log in to https://students.towson.edu then click the "Online Services" tab. At the "Secure Login" screen, you have an option to "Forward Your Email."
Follow the prompts and your Tiger email will automatically be forwarded to your other account (such as Yahoo, Hotmail or AOL). You can then view ALL your email from your 'primary' email account.

|
Q.
|
How do I get a Tiger account if I've never had one?
|
|
A.
|
You DO have a Tiger account; we automatically generate it for all students.
If you never used it, or new that it existed, all you need to do is 'Activate' it. To do that:
- Go to https://students.towson.edu
- Click the "Online Services" tab
- At the 'Secure Login' page, in the "For Students" box click "Activate Your Account"
- Complete the boxes with your
personal information that will 'Authenticate' you as a
member of the Towson University community

|
Q.
|
When I try to "Activate" my Tiger account, it asks me for my TU ID. How do I find that?
|
|
A.
|
This was mailed to you by the Admitting Office. You may contact them or the Registrar's Office or by looking at your One Card: Take the last 8 digits and drop the final one. This is your 7 digit TU ID. Once you have your Tiger Username and your new TU ID, you can proceed to https://students.towson.edu to:
- Activate your Tiger account
- Forward your Tiger email if desired
- Take the "Registration Quick Start" to familiarize yourself with the new "Online Services"
- Register for classes, etc.

Q.
|
How can I register if I don't have access to a computer?
|
|
A.
|
First, don't panic. If you don't have access to
a computer at all, or are having troubles getting
into Towson Online Services, you can always register in
person at the Enrollment Services Building ("walk-up
registration"). Prior to going to the office, you should
call 410.704.2701 to verify the dates/times during on
which you can register (your "registration
appointment").
If you do want to use the
web for self-service registration but don't have access
to a computer off campus, there are a number of
locations where computers are available, both on and off
campus, such as:
- Cook Library PC Lab: Room 35
- Newell Dining Hall: first
level outside the Den as well as on the second level
- Enrollment Services Building
-
Public libraries… wherever you have a
computer with internet access

Q.
|
Can I still pay by credit card using the Web?

Open up the "Finances" link under "Online Services"
and click "Make a Payment" to pay your bill on line using a credit card.

|
|
|
Q.
|
What if I spot a "HOLD" on my account? This stops me from registering. How do I resolve the HOLD?
|
|
A.
|
The Towson Online
Services (TOS) will indicate what department has placed a HOLD on your account (i.e. unpaid bills, parking tickets, library books, immunization records, etc.) Double-click on the icon to get details, including who to contact about the HOLD. Then, contact that department directly to resolve your HOLD; the department that placed it will then removed from your account so you can register.
